The most useful preparation is the preparation for your actual service. An ant treatment, bed bug program and structural fumigation do not share one universal checklist. Before moving furniture or emptying every cabinet, get the instructions tied to the identified pest, planned method and product.
Before the appointment
Confirm which rooms, outdoor areas and storage spaces need access. Ask whether food, dishes, toys, bedding, plants, pet bowls or aquarium equipment must be moved, covered or left in place. Tell the provider about children, pets and any circumstances that could affect occupancy arrangements. If you have already used a product, say what it was and where it was applied.
During the service discussion
Ask which pest was identified, what work is proposed, what is excluded and whether a second visit or monitoring is expected. Get the product and application information relevant to your property. If written preparation or disclosure paperwork is required for specialist work, review it before the visit rather than at the door. Avoid applying another pesticide while the plan is being set unless the provider instructs you to do so.
After treatment
Re-entry and cleaning directions depend on the product label and method. There is no safe universal number of hours for every treatment. Follow the specific instructions for children, pets, ventilation, food-contact surfaces and treated areas. Keep the service paperwork so you can refer to the expected observations and know when to report continued activity.

Questions homeowners ask
Do I need to leave the house?
That depends on the method and product. Some work has limited access instructions; structural fumigation requires a separate vacancy and clearance process. Get the instructions for the specific job and ask who gives the all-clear before making return arrangements.
Should I clean immediately afterward?
Do not use a generic online schedule. Cleaning a treated surface too early may interfere with a planned application, while food-contact areas can have different directions. Ask for the written post-service instructions and follow the product label and provider guidance.
